Mission 1:

Step 1: Introduction

Welcome to your first assignment as a member of The League, an elite band of both good and evil masterminds imbued with the power to create and destroy worlds.  (These masterminds are commonly referred to as "artists").

Your first task is to familiarize yourself with this website, keeping in mind that for the duration of this webquest, this will be where all your missions will be located.  As a class, discuss your experiences with webquests and the possible benefits of completing a webquest activity.

Take some time to click through all the tabs of this site and skim the instructions to see where this journey will take you!  Ask questions and discuss with your teacher and classmates!

Step 2: Base of Operations

Every great super needs a base.  Batman has the Batcave, Iron Man has Stark Tower, and hey, even Plankton has the Chum Bucket to call “Lair, Sweet Lair”.

We in the League have bases of our own to plot dastardly deeds or heroic acts.

In order to set up your own base, proceed to

         linoit.com

and create a free user profile!

With your class, explore the options that Lino provides for documenting findings during your reconnaissance and fact-finding missions.

This lino board will be your base of operations for the duration of this webquest.  Lino allows you to place sticky notes and photographs onto a virtual bulletin board to make connections between your information and your inspiration.

On your computer desktop, start a folder called “Heroes_and_Villains_Recon2015” where you will save images you find that you would like to keep in mind for the character you will design later in your missions.  If you have extra time, go to Google Images and do a simple search like ‘superheroes’ or ‘supervillains’ and save a couple images you are inspired by.

The goal of these images is to have some reference material for your own designs.

Step 3: Reconnaissance

This first set of tasks is quite possibly the most important: RECON.  It is your job do go on a fact-finding mission to learn the basics of creating a world of super heroes and super villains.  Begin by viewing the supplied video regarding the history of the comic book as a class.

After you finish watching the videos and ask any questions or make any comments you have, take 15 minutes and browse the internet (Google Images, Pinterest, or other search sites) for inspiration material for creating your own original hero or villain character.  Some searches you may want to try include:

             -character design

             -facial expressions

             -character poses

             -comic book styles

             -DC Comic characters

             -Marvel Characters

This first 15 minutes you should be working independently.  Save the images that you like to your desktop Heroes and Villains Recon folder and then place them on your Lino board.  Your teacher should signal you at the 15 minutes mark.  At this time, find a partner and share the contents of your Lino boards.  After five minutes with one partner, find a different partner and share your Lino board again for five more minutes.

For the remainder of class, use the information from your partners to supplement your own research, adding interesting and relevant information found by your peers.
